Resumen

A lo largo de la historia, el fenómeno inflacionario ocupó un lugar importante en la discusión teórica económica. Desde una perspectiva histórica, este artículo revisa la literatura sobre las causas teóricas de la inflación, abarcando desde la escuela clásica hasta desarrollos más recientes. Se enfatiza en las perspectivas que analizan el escenario latinoamericano, dada su importancia y diferencias con los modelos para países desarrollados. Por último, se propone una taxonomía para los determinantes teóricos de la inflación, con el objetivo de distinguir las características de los principales enfoques. Así, el entendimiento de los diferentes factores que contribuyen a la compleja trama de relaciones económicas y su contexto proporciona herramientas para enfrentar el problema inflacionario y brindar direcciones de política.
