Just energy transitions in the Americas: A recent cluster analysis

Abstract

In the context of the Paris Agreement, is it equitable for the countries of the Americas to pursue the same objectives as developed countries and/or those that have historically contributed more to environmental pollution through higher carbon dioxide emissions? To address this question, the objective of this research is to form four groups of similar countries so that, in the medium and long term, they can design policies that are reasonable, affordable, and accessible according to the resources and limitations of a region characterized by significant inequalities. The concept of just energy transitions and the notion of climate clubs are used as theoretical frameworks, and a cluster analysis using the k-means method in Microsoft Excel is employed.
