In this paper, I intend, first, to describe the main features of the arguments for the death of ethical theories. Since the anti-theoretical position is not uncontested, secondly, I will outline, following Robert Louden (1992), some of the characteristics that an alternative conception of the ethical theories challenged by the anti-theorists should have. Third, however, I will outline some of the open problems that an alternative conception of ethical theories leaves open. Finally, I will close with some brief conclusions.
