This dossier brings together a set of critical interventions that dialogue around the work of Axel Honneth and, in particular, his conception of recognition through law and its link with justice, law and social criticism. Based on the central article by Santiago Roggerone, two critical commentaries by Mauro Basaure and Luciana Alvarez, and a reply by Roggerone himself, a conversation unfolds that revisits and reinterprets the theory of recognition from a Latin American perspective. The dossier explores the tensions between justice, equality, morality, institutionalization and law, showing how these categories acquire diverse meanings in contexts marked by structural inequalities, persistent colonialities and crises of legitimacy of legal institutions. Far from seeking a conceptual closure, the contributions gathered here open a field of theoretical dispute that reopens the question of the critical potential of recognition theory in scenarios where normative promises seem insufficient or even functional to new forms of exclusion.
